Fasting

Fasting, when combined with prayer, is a dynamic way to deepen your relationship with God. The Daniel Fast enables Gods people to dedicate focused time to seek His guidance, wisdom, and intervention. Fasting serves to consecrate (set apart) a specific period for pursuing intimacy with God and aligning our hearts with His will. A wonderful byproduct of the Daniel Fast is the health benefits many participants experience. As with any significant dietary or lifestyle changes, consult a healthcare professional before beginning.

WHAT IS THE DANIEL FAST

The Daniel Fast is a biblically inspired partial fast. This method of fasting is practiced worldwide and complements a journey of prayer and spiritual growth. The Book of Daniel provides the foundation for this fast. In Daniel 1, the prophet consumed only vegetables (which likely included fruits) and water. In Daniel 10, we learn that Daniel refrained from eating meat, rich foods, and wine for 21 days.

WHY ARE WE FASTING

Our church fast has two primary purposes:

  • Personal Renewal: The Word of God teaches that the flesh wars against the spirit (Galatians 5:17). Fasting disciplines the flesh, bringing it under submission allowing us to hear Gods voice more clearly, discern His will, and experience answers to our prayers.

  • Corporate Breakthrough: CCC Embassy together, as a church body, we fast to seek God’s intervention for salvation, deliverance, healing, and restoration! These are blessings God desires to pour out on those who seek Him in faith. Corporate fasting unites us with a shared purpose and allows us to intercede for others.

THE DANIEL FAST FOR BODY, SOUL, AND SPIRIT

The Bible describes us as a triune being: spirit, soul, and body. The Daniel Fast impacts all three aspects as we dedicate time to prayer and fasting.

The Body
The dietary changes during the Daniel Fast often lead to detoxification from substances such as caffeine, sugar, and artificial additives. In the first few days, participants may experience mild side effects like headaches or fatigue. However, as the body adjusts, many report increased energy and overall well-being.

The Soul
Often referred to as “the flesh” in the Word of God, the soul encompasses our emotions, intellect, and will. During the fast, cravings and frustrations may arise as the soul resists change. Overcoming these challenges strengthens discipline and allows God to shape our inner selves.

The Spirit
Our spirit, which communes with God, takes precedence during fasting. By prioritizing spiritual practices such as prayer, Scripture study, and meditation, we align ourselves with God’s purposes. This alignment helps us take authority over the flesh and experience spiritual growth.

WHAT IF YOU HAVE HEALTH CONCERNS?

Your health and safety are paramount. If you have specific medical conditions or concerns, consult your healthcare provider before starting the Daniel Fast. Modifications may be necessary for certain individuals, such as pregnant or nursing mothers, diabetics, or those with high physical activity levels. These adjustments can ensure you maintain the spirit of the fast while caring for your body’s needs.

Focusing on the Purpose

The heart of the Daniel Fast is to draw closer to God and align with His will. While it’s important to follow the guidelines, don’t let the details become overwhelming or detract from the spiritual focus. Dedicate this time to seeking God wholeheartedly and trust Him to lead you through the journey.

As we embark on this fast together, we anticipate God’s transformative work in our lives and our church. Included are recipe ideas to support you during the fast. We also encourage you to explore additional resources online.

May this season of fasting bring us closer to God and prepare us for the blessings He has in store!
